Do you offer shipping?

Unfortunately, we do not; we hope that you can stop in to the store check us out.

Do I need to bring my own containers?

You certainly may bring in your own clean and dry containers or you have your pick of containers from our "community container collection" - clean, dry and reused donated jars and bottles.

What kind of containers can I use?

Any kind of clean container is perfect!

  • Refill the original container.
  • Buy a jar or bottle from us.
  • Reuse a jar from home.
  • Use a sanitized container from the community container collection
  • We have paper bags and cloth draw string bags for dry products such as dishwasher pods and toothpaste tablets.

Do you accept donated containers?

We do accept reused containers with the following guideines:

  • CLEAN: Containers you wish to donate for store use must be cleaned of any product or residue. This includes the tops and lids. We recommend cleaning containers just like you would if you were going to continue using them at home so they are ready for the next person to use!

  • DRY: Containers you wish to donate must be completely dry. Containers with liquids and even water from after cleaning left in them can cause mildew, so be sure to let them dry out completely before bringing them in!

  • HAVE WORKING PUMP/SPRAYER/LID: Please ensure any containers you wish to donate have a lid or working pump/sprayer. We do not accept containers without them. We will accept extra pumps and sprayers without containers that we can use to replace broken ones.

  • NO CHEMICALS: We cannot accept any containers that held harsh chemicals such as bleach, even if the containers have been properly cleaned. We recommend you dispose of these appropriately.

  • NO SMELLIES: We will not accept containers that held smelly foods such as but not limited to pasta sauce, salsa, pickles or garlic or products with a strong, distinct smell. These smells can linger even after thorough cleaning.

  • LABELS: If you can easily remove the labels without leaving the sticky glue on the bottle then great! But, if not, we would prefer the label be left on to avoid dirt sticking to the container. A container that picks up every speck of hair, dirt, and whatever else it comes into contact with is pretty offputting and unsightly.

  • SIZE MATTERS: It is never plesant when a customer experiences refill sticker shock. For that reason, we encourage the donation of medium to small bottles and jars. The larger the bottle or jar, the greater the chance an unpleasant surprise will occur.

Though we appreciate the thought and effort, we reserve the right to not accept any containers due to any unfollowed guidelines or simply due to lack of physical space to store them.

Why is it important for a container to be dry before adding product?

Our products are plant based and while they do contain preservative systems, those preservatives are naturally derived and will only prevent yeast, mold or fungus from growing when contaminants like tap water, dust or old product residue is not present. Because of this, it's very important to fill only very clean and 100% dry containers especially when using natural and plant-based products for face and body like lotions and oils.

How does the weighing process work and what does "tare" mean?

The tare weight is the weight of the container before any product is added. All donated community containers have already been weighed and the tare weight noted on the label. When you bring in your own containers, you (or we) weigh them and record the tare weight on a label that is applied to your container. After you fill your container, we weigh it again, subtract the tare weight, and charge you only for the amount of product in the container. After your first visit, you’ll be a pro!

Everything is natural, right?

Our goal is to stock plant based, cruelty-free, and sustainably sourced bath, home, and body products. For many reasons, you need to see exactly what is in the product you’re buying and how it may affect you. We have the ingredients of every bulk product we carry here on our website for quick reference.

How do you receive the bulk products?

Our bulk products are received in reusable, double-walled, 2.5-gallon bags. Once empty, these bags will be returned so that they can be sanitized and reused.

Why are To The Brim refill products more expensive compared to products from bigger stores?

Sometimes first time shoppers experience sticker shock at the check out when they fill up that full sized dish soap container or jug of laundry detergent. Do we like it when that happens? No! Is it preventable? Yes, absolutely! However, it takes a little time to learn to shop differently and change your mindset.

Directly comparing prices found at big box stores or bigger corporate owned brands is not an accurate comparison. To The Brim carries products from smaller brands that are always made in the U.S., often locally. These products are made in small batches using high quality ingredients and no fillers. (These smaller brands also pay their employees a living wage and use a closed loop system....but I digress)

No fillers means that more of an actual product is purchased rather than some product mixed with water. This carries over into our customers using less for a load of laundry, handwashing, shower, etc.

Does this mean that we believe it's normal to pay a ton just to be environmentally conscientous? Absolutely not! We encourage the budget minded shopper to purchase smaller quantities, make small, gradual changes one product at a time and educate themselves on how much of a product to use. This can be found in the "product ingredients" section of our website along with the price per ounce so that customers can make their plan for what to buy next.

It takes a little time to learn how to shop differently but we know it's possible and are here to help. While some products may initially appear to be more expensive, if you break it down, in the long run they actually aren't.
