We are here to help reduce the amount of plastic waste in our community by offering refillable household cleaners and hygiene products as an alternative to buying (and throwing out) plastic containers.

Asheville was already a very eco-conscious area, but a low-waste refill store had not been established. Enter 2020 when To The Brim came onto the scene and became Asheville’s first refillery.

We strive to stock a variety of products with listed ingredients to suit as many people as possible so that our customers can feel better about the products they are using on and around themselves every day while keeping plastic out of the landfills.

The Mission Continues…

Once upon a time, while regularly cleaning a car dealership, an earth conscious young woman realized just how much plastic it takes to keep a place clean. She thought that taking her empty spray bottles somewhere to fill them up as she needed sounded like a brilliant idea – but it didn’t exist here in Asheville! About an hour away (shout-out to Fill-More in Burnsville), such a place came to be and the young woman found that she, indeed, loved finding new ways to save plastics from the landfills. Unfortunately, the drive wasn’t very practical, and she was certain that others in her area would love the idea, too; so she worked diligently and that is how To the Brim came to be!

We want to make sure that we support people in whatever eco-friendly journey they’re on so that everyone makes the greatest impact they can. Learning with the community is a huge part of what we do and how we want to help. You don’t need to be a certain type of person to make the changes that will save the world!

How To the Brim Came to Be…

Did You Know?

  • In the past 50 years, humans have consumed more resources than in all previous history.

  • Nearly three quarters of what we throw away is products; organic materials (food and yard waste) make up the remaining 25%.

  • Less than 20% of disposable water bottles are recycled.

  •  1 Million – Estimated number of plastic bags that are handed out worldwide each minute.

  • 500 Billion to 1 Trillion – Estimated number of plastic bags that end up in landfills each year worldwide.

  • A plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.

  • The two main sources of energy used to make plastic bags are oil and natural gas.

  • Each person throws away approximately four pounds of garbage every day.

  • Most families throw away about 88 pounds of plastic every year.

  • The energy we save when we recycle one glass bottle is enough to light a traditional light bulb for four hours.

  • Approximately only 10 percent of every landfill can be cleaned up.
